Trivia and Star Wars
Posted: December 10th, 2009 | Author: hannah | Filed under: Trivia | No Comments »If you know me, you know I love trivia. My roommate and I have been going to trivia at my favorite neighborhood bar, the Wedgwood Alehouse, on Sunday nights. Usually a couple of other friends join us too. The questions are pretty tough, but the Alehouse is a great bar and it’s only a 5 minute walk from our house. Obviously an easy choice for my local trivia haunt (or pub quiz as they like to call it in these parts). There are 25 questions, no categories, and one audio question. The questions are pretty all over the place, but are often related to obscure 80s/early 90s movies and politics. Last week we managed to get third place! The Prizes are fantastic — hot wheels, gummy worms, random stuff. First place gets a pitcher of beer. For third place last week we won gummy worms and a set of fancy toothpicks in a fabulous harvest themed container!
Anyway, a few weeks ago there was a Star Wars question: What was the sand people’s beast of burden? We could see the beast of burden in our heads and even make the noises. As soon as the trivia announcer (Bob, for the record) said the answer, Banthas, Casey screamed BANTHAS! with her fists in the air, since it was on the tippiest of the tip of her tounge. Bob was kind enough to give us a bag of gummy worms for best reaction to an answer.

BANTHA!
The Banthas question inspried Casey and I to rewatch Star Wars! They were on my Netflix queue anyway because I’ve been watching How I Met Your Mother a lot lately, and they have tons of Star Wars references. I pushed them up to the top of my queue and we watched A New Hope last week and tonight watched Empire Strikes Back. I forgot how much I enjoy those movies, and how timeless they are. Casey and I both agreed that they make us laugh a lot more than we remembered. We’ll be watching Return of the Jedi soon! Can’t wait.
Here are some of the other questions we’ve (that I can remember) had at the Wedgwood Alehouse. A lot of them are tip of the tongue sort of questions…
What is the name of the dog grooming company in Dumb and Dumber?
In Seinfeld, what is Kramer’s first name? (A regular question, we’ve had it twice)
What is the name of the college in Animal House?
What is John Belushi’s nickname in Animal House?
Who was the coach of the 1992 Dream Team?
How many people died in the Challenger explosion?
What city is Jack Daniel’s distilled?
What song did the term “heavy metal” come from?
Our scores have been variable (out of 25):
Week 1: 10
Week 2: 12
Week 3: 10
Week 4: 17! third place
One of the interesting rules at the Alehouse, and different from Sammy’s, is a player cap. You are docked one point from your final score for every person over 6 you have on your team.
Though I miss good ole Sammy’s, I’m happy I’ve found a new trivia home!
