I just registered for the GRE. Saturday, September 20. This scares me a bit on several levels. This means I need to actually study for the GRE. Actually, that is sort of why I wanted to go ahead and register; I now have a set deadline in mind, so I have to be ready by then. But taking the GRE also means figuring out where I am applying to. I am 90% that I want to get a Master’s of City and Regional Planning, concentrating in environmental planning or land use planning. For right now, the schools that have the most appealing programs to me are (in no particular order):
But then I start thinking, “Do I really want to go straight into graduate school? Will I even get into graduate school?” I have a pretty clear idea of what I would like to do as a career, but at what other point in my life am I going to be free of any real responsibilities and obligations? So I think, Peace Corps! AmeriCorps! Student Conservation Association! Teach English in China! I don’t know. All of the possibilities really excites me, but deciding on one is daunting. I know whatever is supposed to happen will fall into place. I guess the GRE is the first step.

I would first like to say that I am forever grateful to Wake Technical Community College. Not only have I been really happy with the classes I’m taking this summer, the unassuming and down to earth professors, and the free printing–but their security guards managed to get my keys out of my car when I locked them in. Thanks Wake Tech!
I offcially moved cubicles at work yesterday. Now I am next to the window, in the back corner of the office. It’s a good spot. My plants like it. And I now have dual screen! Yes! And my business cards were ordered today. So it’s been a productive week at work.
Davis got home from China Monday night! My dad and I went to pick him up from the airport. It’s great to see him back, but I’m so jealous of his trip. Hearing of his great adventures really makes me want to get traveling again.
I would like to send a personal thanks to loyal peacie, Maggie, for a) giving me several new blogs to frequent, b) being a loyal gmail chatter; and most importantly c) SINGSTARING with me.
Speaking of Singstar. I bought it. It’s amazing. I’m totally addicted. I don’t care what anyone says about it. It’s great.
I’ve also become a huge fan of woot.com, especially shirt.woot.com. I’ve bought two of their random shirts. The one that came in the mail today was excellent. It’s brown with this wonderful orange maple leaf on it. Woot, you know me too well.
This past weekend I went up to the Virginia mountains with a natural resources friend of mine, Mary. Her parents have a cabin up there. It was fantastic–just what I needed mentally and physically. Plus Mary has the greatest dog ever, Lemmy.
Now, for more mountains! I’m leaving for Hayesville with Sara tomorrow to go visit Brittany for her 21st birthday. I can’t wait! Brittany’s told me so much about Hinton…I really can’t wait to see it, meet the people, and of course SEE BRITTANY!

Life is good!
I am a bit sad to say it, but my nine-year stint at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences has finally ended. Today was my last day working in the Living Conservatory. There were a few reasons for leaving, but mostly it just felt like it was time to go.
Though I will not miss cleaning up poop and yelling at kids for grabbing butterflies, I will miss watching the butterflies emerge from their crysallis’ and bringing them into the Conservatory. I’ll miss seeing the fascinated kids who came in and got an up-close encounter with a butterfly. Most of all, I’ll miss the infamous sloth who gave me my big Technician break.
It’s been great to work at the museum for so long. If I hadn’t worked there, I certainly not be the same person I am today. I have learned a great deal and met some of my best friends. So it’s sad to say goodbye, but I’m happy to be done!
I am proud to announce that I am movin’ up in the business world. I will be getting my very own business cards. From now on, I expect everyone to refer to me as “Hannah Litzenberger, Associate Environmental Planner.” I will be sure to give interested parties/peacies my card in the event that you need to contact me with your official environmental business.
In other news, I made my first ever campaign donation today. I feel quite proud! Obama’s announcement that he will not be accepting any public campaign financing prompted me to give to his campaign—long overdue on my part.
I saw the old school bus I used to ride back in middle school and high school driving down the road today. Good ‘ole number 1069. Random, I know–but it brought back funny memories. Like this one time a kid threw a soda bottle out of the window, hit a construction worker, and then this random guy got on the bus and got really mad at the kid. I’m sure that’s not legal. Anyway, it’s good to see that 1069 is still going strong.

So, Monday-Wednesday I was in Alexandria, VA for a business trip. We had two public meetings for the Commonwealth Avenue Sewer Improvements. Not many people showed up for the meetings, but it was still a good experience for me. I learned a lot more about public meeting logistics and planning, and it was great to spend time with my co-workers. I’m really glad I had the opportunity to go. Alexandria is also a beautiful city! It is right across the river from DC. I could totally see myself living downtown, and working in DC. Even though that would be almost as expensive as living right in DC. It’s just a a great downtown area with amazing restaurants, old buildings, and great shops.
Now more than ever I am stumped about what I want to do post graduation. I know things will fall into place how they are supposed to…but there are so many things I want to do! I want to travel. Work. Continue school. Move away somewhere. Are all those possible? We’ll see.
Okay, it’s too late for me to be awake! Time to try to go to bed!
